The question if media has any effects on children is a big issue in western world. Many parents or educators are looking for the hidden problems of today’s kids.  The article explains problems which are most likely to be caused by media (Learning aggressive behaviors, becoming desensitized to real world violence, and developing a fear of being victimized). For example, language development, children advertising, what are children watching, or what you can do as a parent are areas which need improvement. The statistics show that the biggest problems are violent video games and TV programming. “The American Psychological Association Help Center reveals that children’s TV programming alone contains about 20 violent acts an hour.” The association believes that children are imitators of media actions therefore “they are more likely to strike out at playmates, argue, and disobey authority”. Nowadays, the American government is trying to implement a rating system for TV programming. This system is supposed to help reduce violence watched by kids (similar to V-chip). In conclusion, because society has such an easy access to media, we have to be able to eliminate what our kids are NOT able to filter.

Today, media violence and children is one of the most serious topics in this filed. The article “Media violence in children lives” discusses the potential problem that could be caused by media on kids. As the mass media is developing and getting more accessible to common public the more issues and problems are appearing. “During the past decade, America has witnessed an alarming increase in the incidence of violence in the lives of children”. This specific article is focusing on the negative effects of the media. NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) claims that media is a cause of violence, drug usage and etc. Moreover, media in this decade gives the children a “bad” or “negative” real-life model. In addition, NAEYC “believes that policymakers and broadcasters should set limits on violent depictions during hours children are likely to watch television”. However, throughout the past years, there were many experiments and researches done on this topic and none of them has proven that media has a negative or violent effect. The prevalence of violence in media or in society is a complex problem. Violence in the media became a fixed part; therefore the society has to research if media is really the cause. The second describes what parents and teachers should do to eliminate media violence.

INTRODUCTION

This blog will  introduce you how media influence the children and how are children used by media. Also, is really media violence influencing children’s behaviors? I think it is important to explain this problem to the common public. Nowadays, we are facing the big problem called children and the media; therefore, violence in the media has been the big issue in this century.

Throughout this century, there we several studies done on children and the media. Many critics blame media and the violence for negative effect that it suppose to have on children; however, is that really the truth? Parents have to often decide what the cause of their children’s behavior is. We have to look deeply in the problem and analyze what are the causes of possible violence. Nowadays, we are targeted by huge mass media influence; thus, we have a big option of channels, articles, programs and magazines.
